Description

This adapter plate kit allows you to mount one or more gear driven transfer case(s) in your 4.0L 2005-2014 Toyota Tacoma with an A750F automatic transmission. The adapter plate is CNC machined from 6061-T6 Aluminum at the Trail Gear Headquarters. Vehicle modifications required for installation include: lengthening the front and shortening the rear drive shafts, additional floorboard hole for the second transfer case and crossmember replacement. Our design does not require modification to the transmission for installation.

With our 4.0L Adapter Plate you can install the legendary Toyota gear driven transfer case(s) in your trail rig. These cases are known for their strength, reliability and configuration flexibility. With the correct adapter plate you can put one or two transfer cases into your truck. Each case can have stock 2.28 gears or 4.70 low range gears installed.

Note: One RF1A top shift gear-drive transfer case will be needed to perform this conversion. For dual cases, both cases need to be top shift. Also required is a 23-spline 2.28 input gear.

Additional Items Needed:

  • Replacement Crossmember (if installing dual cases)
  • Second T-Case Mount (if installing dual cases)
  • Crawl Box (with 23-spline input gear) (if installing dual cases)
  • 2-3 Quarts of 90W gear oil
  • Carrier Bearing Relocation Kit
  • Tacoma Transfer Case Shifter Kit (coming soon or you will need to fabricate your own).

Note: This kit requires cutting through the floorboard shifter console for the t-case shifter. Read the Tacoma transfer case shifter installation instructions before purchasing to see the modifications that will need to be made to the shifter console.

FAQ

WHAT IS THE VERSO?

The Verso shifts the output of a Toyota gear-driven RF1A transfer case from the right-hand (passenger side) side to the left-hand (driver’s side) side of transfer case.

WHY WOULD I NEED IT?

You would need the Verso if you wish to put a Toyota gear-drive transfer case into a vehicle with a left-hand drop axle.  The Verso is also useful if you already have a gear-drive transfer case and you want to change to a left-hand drop axle.

WHY WOULD I WANT TO CHANGE TO A LEFT-HAND DROP AXLE?

Many OEM and aftermarket axles (e.g. Dana 44 & Dana 60) are offered in left-hand drop configurations.

CAN I INSTALL THE VERSO ON MY TOYOTA CHAIN-DRIVE TRANSFER CASE?

The Verso is not compatible with any chain-drive transfer case.  See the manufacturers web page on how to identify what kind of transfer case you have. Click Here.

CAN I INSTALL THE VERSO ON THE TOYOTA GEAR-DRIVE TRANSFER CASE MYSELF?

Although we do sell the Verso™ adapter kit, it is intended for mechanics that are extremely familiar with completely disassembling and rebuilding Toyota gear-drive transfer cases.  We also offer completely rebuilt transfer cases with the Verso™ adapter already installed for customers who are able to install complete transfer cases into their vehicle.  Many of our authorized dealers also offer complete installation services for an additional fee.  Refer to our Dealer web page or call 877.4X4.TOYS for help in finding a dealer in your area.

WILL THIS WORK ON A 1995-2004 TACOMA?

The Verso™ will work on 1995-2004 Tacoma trucks with minor modifications.  You will need to purchase the correct Tacoma adapter kit to install onto a gear-driven transfer case or purchase a fully-built transfer case with the correct Tacoma adapter kit.  If installing dual cases, you will need to purchase a dual-case crossmember.  You may also need additional and/or different driveline bolts depending on the driveline you wish to use.  Call 877.4X4.TOYS if you have questions about your particular build.

WILL THIS WORK ON A 2005+ TACOMA?

The Verso will work on 2005+ Tacoma A750F automatic transmission trucks with modifications to the floorboard and shift console for the T-case shifter.  You will need to purchase a 4.0L adapter kit to install on a gear-driven transfer case or purchase a fully-built transfer case with a 4.0L adapter.  You will also have to modify a T-case shifter or purchase our Tacoma T-Case Shifter to clear the shift console.  You will also need to move the driveline carrier bearing back to compensate for the thickness of the 4.0L adapter plate.  We offer a Carrier Bearing Relocation Kit to accomplish this.  Also, if you want to install dual cases, you will need to fabricate your own crossmember to support the additional weight.  You may also need additional and/or different driveline bolts depending on the driveline you wish to use.  Call 877.4X4.TOYS if you have questions about your particular build.

IF I INSTALL A VERSO™ GEAR DRIVE TRANSFER CASE INTO A 2005+ TACOMA, WILL 4WD WORK THE SAME?

No. The 4WD lights on your instrument panel will no longer work properly. Also, you will now need to come to a complete stop to shift into 4WD.

WHAT IF I HAVE A 2005+ TACOMA WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION?

Unfortunately, we do not offer an adapter to mate a gear-drive transfer case to a manual transmission on a 2005+ Tacoma at this time.

WILL THIS WORK ON AN FJ CRUISER?

We have never installed the Verso on a FJ Cruiser, but if you have the correct transmission adapter, it is possible to mate a Verso transfer case to the drivetrain. At this time, we do not have any information on the other modifications that would have to be made to an FJ Cruiser to complete the installation.

WILL THIS WORK ON A JEEP?

The Verso is not designed for Jeep applications.
